Are We There Yet?
Most Christians know the story of David and Goliath. The young boy slays the Philistine giant when no one has the courage to take him on. This kind of courage is what we should model after in our battles with Satan and the evils of the secular world. Secular thought today is counter to Christianity and counter to the fabric of family and the virtuous life. I have long debated in my mind and am still debating whom it is we evangelize and where is the effort best spent. Certainly the answer is in the family itself but beyond that where do we go. I would much prefer talking to someone who has a "clean slate" or at the very least absent from the prejudices and biases towards Christianity that many young people display today. In a lot of cases there exists this nihilistic mindset about learning on the whole and when it comes to learning about God, the thinking goes "there couldn't be a bigger waste of time." I worry about where all this is headed. I don't believe we are to despair but I do believe that we must find better ways to counter the enemy. In today's reading Jesus sends his disciples out with these instruction "And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them." Are we there yet?
