Our Generation Seeks No Sign

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.

He(Jesus) sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."
Mark 8:11-13
Most Christians think of the Pharisees as the "bad guys" of the Gospels. Jesus tangles with them quite frequently. I will say this much without going into a great deal about them. They knew the Pentateuch and the Law, they just did not understand Jesus as the fulfillment of the Law. The generation of Christians that are growing up now and educated both in Catholic, Christian and public schools are not even looking for signs and that is because their parents are vested in the material secular world and do not posit that there is a reality beyond it. If Jesus sighed at the Pharisees what is He doing when we aren't even interested in Him?
