The Lord of the Sabbath

While Jesus was going through a field of grain on a sabbath, his disciples were picking heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands and eating them. Some Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?"Jesus said to them in reply, "Have you not read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry? How he went into the house of God, took the bread of offering, which only the priests could lawfully eat, ate of it, and shared it with his companions."Then he said to them, "The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath." Luke 6:1-5
If you have ever worked for the government or been a member of the military you have had the experience of being bogged down in a myriad of red tape, rules and regulations. Many times the intent of the rules has long been gone, but they remain in effect counter productive to what is true. The Pharisees went by the "letter of the law" so much so that when the Creator was standing before them "in the flesh" they were blind to recognizing Him. The "law" that binds people today is more insidious and more destructive in preventing one from seeing the Truth - Jesus. That "law" is the prevailing secular attitude that what matters is the temporal and not eternal. The Creator stands before us each day in the Eucharist - The Lord of the Sabbath!
