It's The Mass, Stupid

From Catholic Cartoons Blog comes this entry on Guitars at Mass the author says that the guitars ruined his Christmas Mass. I have had a problem with music period at Mass. Some of the melodies for the Gloria, The Allelulia, and the Agnus Dei (That's Lamb of God for those who don't know) sound like they came from a bar room. There have been times when the piano player is hitting notes after the song is finished like they are on stage. My wife is tired of my complaining so I'm going to start a new blog called the "Grumpy Catholic". The solemnity, the holiness, the serene, the mystical, the sorrow, and every other element that we the believer, is suppose to feel and engage in is ruined by this idiotic distraction. We are not Protestants. The Worship Service is not for our entertainment. The music, in conjunction with the rest of the liturgy is suppose to be uplifting, making us more involved in the spirituality and mysticism of the moment. We need a special one day event to explain to Catholics and anyone else who would like to attend, exactly what happens at Mass. Padre Pio said: "It would be easier for the world to exist without the sun than without the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass." And I say it would be easier to receive Jesus in this most wondrous experience without stupid music distracting you. When we start rapping at Mass I'm outta here.

I am completely with you.

I drive 35 minutes from home even though there is a Catholic Church 4 blocks from my house because the church in town is what I have deemed "rock & roll Jesus". It's annoying.

Love your blog.
